Does it feel like the challenges of life are getting in the way of living your life?
Therapy for when you’re ready to change the way you respond to the challenges you’re facing.
Life happens in the intersections
The hardest parts of life seldom happen in neat categories or follow structured paths of healing.
It can be messy, complicated, and involve many parts of ourselves.
Like two different rivers joining together, the point of connection can be chaotic…
but eventually it becomes fully integrated into one strong river.

I value therapy that is wholly centered around the experiences of the people I have the pleasure to work with. While some therapists may feel like they’re running a skill drill, I aim to find the balance between personal process oriented therapy approached (such as having the time and space to press into the nuance of a situation) with maintaining an action oriented approach to therapy that focuses on identifying what needs to be done to see movement.
My primary models of therapy that I work from are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and Brainspotting, with some CBT and solution oriented therapy as needed.

Originally trained as an Oncology Social Worker I spent the first stretch of my career working with Bone Marrow Cancer patients and families in the hospital while they underwent intensive cancer treatment.
Since 2019 I have been working as a therapist in a variety of settings including community based group practices, integrative primary care, and, now, solo private practice.

Nuance Matters
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Your goals, your life, your experiences stay central to all that we do.
Process with a Purpose
When doing deeper work or exploring various aspects of life or a situation, it’s important to keep in mind a why. Endless processing without a clear guidance on what we’re processing for can become aimless and unhelpful.
Life cannot be void of Challenge
Sadly, we cannot remove all aspects of challenge from life. Some therapies have a goal of full symptom resolution. While that sounds ideal in theory, real life doesn’t work that way and then people are left wondering what they did wrong when the challenge represents. Rather, a focus living well alongside our challenges is a stronger approach.
-
Confluence (noun): a coming or flowing together, meeting, or gathering at one point
There was what was, and then there is what is. Life is known to hit us from time to time. Whether we call it “curve balls”, “when life give you lemons”, or we are “dealt a band hand”, we all know the experience of being faced with something that demands to be dealt with.
The image of two rivers joining together is one that is often marked by disruption, upheaval, and chaos at the point of junction. But, a little ways downstream we see what is a new river. Stronger, larger, and integrated. This integrated river represents the new life on the other side of the junction point, which itself is quite chaotic.
Merging Rivers is here for those transitional spaces between what was, and what is becoming.

Before meeting with a new therapist, you may wish to get a quick vibe check. Here are some things you may want to know about me:
I’m a dorky dad - deeply authentic and don’t have a cool bone in my body.
I really hate the medicalization of mental health - DSM, Insurance, rigid treatment plans, and calling normal human experiences disorders.
I believe a lot of our mental health “problems” are a result of our hyper individualistic, late-stage capitalism stage of American Culture and we are missing deeper connections to community and history.
At the same time, I believe therapy should be accessible and efforts should be made to improve access where possible, even if that means playing the medicalization game.
I like and enjoy the person of Jesus but am increasingly having a hard time identifying with evangelicalism as it was presented to me growing up. I more closely self-identify as an ex-vangelical christian and enjoy supporting people of all walks with various feelings towards church and faith (religious, deconstructing, ex-religious, non-faith identifying, and everything in between).
Specializations
Relationships
With a specific focus on couples navigating a shared trauma or life challenge, relationship focused therapy focuses on moving towards acceptance of the challenges faced and returning to a healthy relationship in context to the situations faced.
Trauma & Stress
Many of the worst experiences of life have a way of sticking with us and can be difficult to shake. Utilizing current advances in trauma therapy we are able to get to the root of these experiences and resolve them - freeing you to return living your life well.
Faith Conflicts
Faith can be very powerful for some and the source of great pain for others. When there is a disconnect between the messages of one’s faith and their experiences, it can be extremely distressing. From church hurt, to deconstruction, and identity conflicts - we will help you find integration.
Chronic and Complex Medical
When a diagnosis turns your world upside down, it can be one of the most life altering experiences. What’s worse is you are now part of a club that few people outside the club can relate to. That’s where working with a therapist who has been on the front lines can be so helpful.
Grief and Loss
There are two realities that unite all of humanity, we all are born and we all die. Despite this truth, grief hurts like nothing else and trying to walk through this without the right support can make the pain worse. We cannot take away the pain we can learn to grieve with more love than hurt.
Life Transitions
Transitions between seasons of life, going from one context to the next, tend to bring out many parts of ourselves that demand our attention. As you reconcile who you have been, we shift our attention to who you are becoming, with purpose.
